About
Jewellery care
Last on, first off
Put jewellery on after perfume and lotion, take it off before anything else.
Keep it dry
No showers, no pools, no sea. Chlorine and salt are the fastest way to dull plating.
Wipe after wearing
Ten seconds with a soft dry cloth removes the skin oils that cause dullness.
Store separately
A pouch or a lined box. Pieces rubbing together scratch the plating.
By piece
Each type has one habit that matters most.

Necklaces
Store them hanging or flat
Fine chains knot in a pouch. Hang them, or lay them flat and fastened.
Undo the clasp before taking a necklace off — pulling it over your head stretches links.

Rings
Off before hand washing
Rings take the most abuse: soap, sanitiser, keyboards, gym bars. Removing them for hand washing and workouts roughly doubles their life.
Do not clean plated rings with an ultrasonic machine.

Bracelets
Mind the wrist you write with
Desk contact wears plating along one edge. Alternate wrists, or move a bracelet up the arm while working.
Rinse and dry sliders and clasps if they stiffen.

Earrings
Clean the posts, not just the fronts
Wipe posts and backs with a dry cloth after wearing. That is where residue collects.
Backs loosen over time — check them before a long day out.
Safe and unsafe
| Situation | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Soft dry cloth | Safe — the best routine clean |
| Warm water, mild soap, dried immediately | Occasional deep clean only |
| Shower, bath, pool, sea | Avoid |
| Perfume, hairspray, lotion, sanitiser | Avoid contact |
| Silver dip, polish, ultrasonic cleaner | Never — strips plating |
| Sleeping in it | Avoid — bends fine chains |
Care questions
My piece has dulled. Can I fix it?
A soft dry cloth restores most dullness. If the gold has worn through to the base metal, plating cannot be restored at home.
Can I use a silver polishing cloth?
No. Polishing cloths are abrasive and will take the plating off.
What if it tarnishes within 30 days?
Contact us. Within 30 days you are covered by our returns policy.
Is it safe to sleep in?
Best not to. Chains kink and settings catch on bedding.
Still not sure?
Tell us what happened to your piece and we will tell you honestly whether it can be saved.
